Pentagon Climbing Hangboard Grip Trainer

$49.99

Build climbing strength anywhere with this portable pentagon climbing hangboard grip trainer. Designed for rock climbers, boulderers, CrossFit athletes, and home gym users, this compact finger training board helps improve finger strength, grip endurance, forearm power, pinch strength, and upper-body control without requiring permanent wall installation.

The unique pentagon-shaped design gives you multiple grip zones and hold depths for progressive training. Practice crimps, slopers, pinch grips, deep jugs, open-hand holds, dead hangs, and warm-up grips to develop stronger fingers and better climbing-specific control. With varied edge sizes and grip positions, this climbing fingerboard allows you to adjust workout difficulty as your strength improves.

The no-drill rope and carabiner setup makes it easy to train on compatible pull-up bars, beams, tree branches, garage rafters, or other secure anchor points. Its compact, portable design makes it ideal for home gyms, apartments, outdoor workouts, travel training, and pre-climb warmups.

Whether you are training for bouldering, rock climbing, obstacle course racing, or general grip strength, this portable hangboard is a versatile tool for building stronger hands, forearms, and pulling power.

How to Train Grip Strength for Better Bouldering Performance

To train for a better bouldering grip, climbers should focus less on generic “hand squeezing” and more on climbing-specific finger flexor strength, pinch strength, forearm endurance, and balanced wrist/finger conditioning. The most relevant methods are progressive hangboard or portable-edge training, assisted hangs for beginners, pinch-block lifts, edge-block lifts, towel hangs, farmer carries, and antagonist work such as finger-extension bands and wrist-extensor exercises. A systematic review found that finger-flexor resistance training can improve finger strength, rate of force development, and forearm endurance in climbers, all of which directly support bouldering performance.

Grip Training for Beginners vs Experienced Climbers

For beginners or injury-conscious climbers, the key is to start with low intensity, avoid training to failure, rest well between hard sessions, and progress slowly because finger tendons and pulleys adapt more slowly than muscles. Recent research also suggests that frequent low-intensity finger loading can improve grip strength, and combining low-intensity work with maximal loading may produce additional gains.

For more experienced climbers, research on hangboard training found that an eight-week protocol using progressively heavier loads improved grip strength more than regular climbing alone.

THE RESULTS

Grip Strength Training Can Improve Performance:

0

5.8% improvement — A 2024 study of 526 climbers found that adding finger-loading grip training to Max Hangs improved finger strength compared to body weight. Climbers who only climbed did not improve.

0

14.3% improvement — A 2022 study of 54 experienced climbers found that 4 weeks of hangboard grip training increased maximum finger strength. The control group only improved by 0.7%, showing that targeted grip training made a much bigger difference.

0

8% improvement — Research on elite, world-level climbers found that 4 weeks of finger-grip training increased maximum force on slope-crimp holds. The study also found a 27.5% to 32% improvement in early force production, which helps climbers pull harder faster.

*Based on peer-reviewed sports science studies and reviews. Results vary by athlete, sport, injury history, training quality, and program length. These studies support ankle/foot strength, balance, and proprioceptive training as part of performance training, but they do not guarantee the same results for every athlete. Benefits Of Grip Training

Stronger grip helps climbers hold small edges, slopers, pinches, and awkward holds more securely.

Good grip strength helps delay forearm fatigue, allowing climbers to stay on the wall longer.

A stronger grip improves body control, especially during dynamic moves, overhangs, and powerful bouldering problems.

Better finger and hand strength can help climbers maintain contact with holds and reduce unexpected falls.

Grip training can support the muscles and tendons used in climbing, lifting, and daily hand function.

Grip strength carries over to everyday tasks like carrying heavy bags, lifting objects, opening jars, and using tools.

Bouldering vs. Rock Climbing: What’s the Difference?

Bouldering and rock climbing are similar because both involve climbing indoor walls or natural rock using strength, balance, technique, and problem-solving. The main difference is:

Rock climbing is the broad sport of climbing natural rock faces or indoor climbing walls. Climbers may use ropes, harnesses, belay devices, helmets, and other gear depending on the style. The goal is usually to climb a route from bottom to top.

Bouldering is a specific type of rock climbing done on shorter walls or rock formations, usually without ropes or harnesses. Instead, climbers use thick crash pads and often have spotters to reduce injury from falls. Bouldering routes are called problems, and they focus heavily on strength, technique, balance, and short sequences of difficult moves.

Bouldering Rock Climbing
Done on Rock or Climbing Wall
Uses Climbing Shoes
Uses Chalk
Usually Short Climbs
Can Be Very Tall Climbs
Uses Ropes
Uses a Harness
Uses a Belayer
